The first DIY Dharma book study group read Walpola Rahula's What the Buddha Taught. It's a good, slightly dense intro to Buddhism that provided a good foundation for more dharma study.
The second book is Chogyam Trungpa's Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism. From what I've read so far, it looks like it could be one of those "life-changing" books I've heard others speak of (or at least view-changing). Having never experienced a life-changing book myself, I'm looking forward to getting into this one. I'm especially looking forward to reading more about the tendency to see spirituality as a process of self-improvement and the impulse to "develop and refine the ego when the ego is, by nature, essentially empty."
