John de Jardin has been studying and practicing dharma—the teachings of awakening—for more than thirty years. His root teacher, the late Ven. Namgyal Rinpoche (Ananda Bodhi/Leslie George Dawson), was a Canadian trained in both the Theravada and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions, the first westerner to be recognized as a tulku (reincarnated lama) by a Tibetan lineage. He has also received teachings and transmissions from a number of other great teachers, including H. H. the XVIth Karmapa, Sayadaw U Thila Wunta, Sayadaw U Janaka, Thich Nhat Hanh, H. H. the Dalai Lama, Kalu Rinpoche, Karma Thinley Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Ayang Rinpoche.
