Celebrating Ajahn Sona's 20th year as a Monk

October Events - VANCOUVER

The end of this year's annual monastic Rains Retreat is special. Ajahn Sona will conclude his 20th - making him a Mahathera, or "great elder" in the Theravada Bhikkhu Sangha. Two events will take place at Birken to acknowledge this wonderful occasion (see the descriptions of the Mudita-Cit Retreat and Paa Pah listed on the Birken Home Page).  For the many friends of Birken from the Lower Mainland who are unable to come to either of these, we have good news:  two events are scheduled for Vancouver!

Friday, Oct. 24th  7- 9:30pm - MacKay Rm, Vancouver Public Library - A public talk in which Ajahn Sona will speak on "Twenty Years as a Buddhist Monk". An evening of Dhamma, some good stories, and abundant appreciation!

Saturday, Oct. 25th  9am - 4pm - VanDusen Gardens - A Day of Mindfulness led by Ajahn Sona - a great opportunity to practice with others in this beautiful setting. Bring a lunch and whatever "meditation equipment" you may need. Chairs will be available.
